Instant Love in a Bottle

What am I talking about? … Kerastase Fusio-Dose Instant Treatments

These super concentrated, “made-to-order” treatments are designed with the on-the-go client in mind. They can last several weeks in the hair and only take 5 minutes so they easily fit into your color, highlight, or cut appointments without making you run late for work or to pick up the kids. AND, they have versatility to suit most hair needs.

fusio_ashx There are four basic vials or Concentres (shown on the left side of the image) and four basic toppers or Boosters (shown on the right side) that are combined to make personalized formulas of hair happiness. There are at least 16 different formulas and can be increased to two Boosters for even more options!

The colors of the vials and toppers correspond to the colors and “jobs” of the other Kerastase product lines to make it easy to remember. Although there are some variations, the colors generally mean: pink for protection and shine of color treated hair, orange for nourishment of dry hair, green for reinforcement and strength of damaged hair, and purple for replenishment and density of fine hair.

So come in and check them out, we are happy to formulate a special mix specifically for your hair! It is pretty cool to see the Booster mix with the Concentre!

shampoo – SHamˈpo͞o

an exciting word!… One of the more interesting words in the hair industry is shampoo. It can be a noun or a verb; clean you up and feel so good!

washing hair in sink from

Google defines shampoo as: (n.) a liquid preparation containing detergent or soap for washing the hair, and (v.) to wash or clean (something, esp. the hair) with shampoo.

The word shampoo in the English language dates back to 1762 and (by way of the Hindi word chāmpo) is derived from the Sanskrit root capayati which means to press, knead, and soothe. In the early years the word shampoo mostly referred to the cleansing and massaging services offered at bath houses. Later on the word meaning changed to something more simple of applying soap to the hair. Now the word means two things thanks to more modern formulas of shampoo (the noun) from the turn of the 20th century.

At Encore we have lots of nouns to choose from to suit any hair type and are more than happy to hook you up with a verb or two in our wonderful back-massaging, kickback-and-put-your-feet-up chairs – and yes, we literally have recliners for shampoo chairs so come in and check them out. – photo credit: allmyhair.wordpress.com

New Years Resolutions

According to the University of Scranton’s Journal of Clinical Phycology, roughly 45% of Americans have made resolutions for this new year. The findings of the survey show the most popular types of resolutions are related to self-improvement, money, and relationships.

Part of self-improvement is feeling great in your own skin and hair! Sometimes that can mean hitting up the gym a few days a week, taking a class to boost brain power, and taking time to take care of yourself. One great way to take care of yourself is to maintain healthy hair with regular trims and the right at home regiment. Using the right shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in products is a great start to having healthy looking hair. For some using a nutrition-rich shampoo, a moisturizing conditioner, and a leave-in conditioning heat protectant can keep their beautifully blown-out locks healthy. For others using a color-conserving shampoo, a light conditioner, and a luxurious mousse can keep their volumous hairs healthy.

Whatever your style preferences are, Encore can help you make smart choices for products to keep your hair healthy and perfectly styled – or perfectly unstyled for some! And the lovely stylists can hook you up with fresh colors, highlights, and cuts!

Products to be Proud of; Kerastase Specifique

The Kerastase Specifique line has a very specific job. It is designed for those people who have very sensitive scalps. The line also goes by the name Dermo-Calm which makes me think of the dad from My Big Fat Greek Wedding who said “Give me any word and I show you how the root is Greek”. Dermo-Calm comes from the word “dermis” which is a layer of the skin and “calm” which is the absence of confrontational activity or irritation. So there you go – skin without irritation.

The line includes just two simple pieces, a shampoo and a conditioning masque. Bain Vital Dermo-Calm is a hypoallergenic cleansing and soothing shampoo designed for the sensitive scalp with normal to combination hair types. This shampoo leaves the hair feeling light with a relaxing fragrance. Maybe more of us need this shampoo! Masque Sensitode Dermo-Calm is a soothing, calming conditioning masque designed for the sensitive scalp and all hair types.

2013-11-15 15.20.55 (2) Here is a quick behind the scenes look at one of our stylists (Myrna) doing some high and lowlights on another stylist (Fernanda) on a slow day in our “back room” color area. Fernanda is slouching so Myrna can reach the top of her head more easily, or maybe just to be incognito! Your beautiful stylists at Encore have to get their hair done too and dare I say “they go to the best stylists in town”? yes! Our stylists go to the best stylists in town to get their own hair done!

For little mini bios on the stylists at Encore check out our website encorecolorstudio.com and click on “our team”.
